The current landscape of the media and journalism sector – both internationally and nationally – demands a concerted effort to provide tools for reflection, involving relevant stakeholders and defining guidelines that strengthen journalism and its crucial role in our society.
In this context, CoLABOR, in partnership with the OSCE RFoM, with the support of the Journalists' Union and the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic, is organizing the conference "Democracy and the Safety of Journalists," to be held on October 17th in Lisbon, with the aim of strengthening the fundamental links between journalism and democracy.
This event, which counts Jornal de Notícias as a media partner, will bring together several discussion panels, with the participation of international speakers, researchers, journalists and political decision-makers.
The main objectives of the conference are:
I. To promote a comprehensive and enriching reflection aimed at journalists, stakeholders, political actors, researchers and civil society in general;
II. To reinforce the importance of debating the critical challenges of the sector, raising its presence on the political agenda;
III. To present the OSCE RFoM's Toolbox for the Safety of Journalists, making it available to journalists, stakeholders, political actors, researchers and civil society in Portugal.
