CoLABOR researcher João Vasco Lopes is the author of the chapter dedicated to Economics in the most recent edition of the IPPS-Iscte – The State of the Nation and Public Policies 2026, under the theme Governing with a Fragmented Parliament.
In this chapter, the researcher analyzes the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) by companies, highlighting that Portugal continues to be below the European Union average, reflecting the characteristics of the business fabric and the specialization profile of the Portuguese economy.
The chapter also reflects on the National Artificial Intelligence Agenda (ANIA), acknowledging its strengths but warning of challenges that could hinder its effectiveness in the country's economic and social transformation.
Published annually by IPPS-Iscte since 2019, the report "The State of the Nation and Public Policies" brings together contributions from experts in different fields of knowledge on the main challenges of public policies in Portugal, promoting a multidisciplinary analysis of central themes for the country's development.
