The new study, part of CoLABOR's editorial line "Numbers in Analysis," entitled "Employment, Productivity, and Wages: A Sectoral Perspective," analyzes the evolution of employment, productivity, and wages in Portugal from a sectoral and comparative perspective. The author demonstrates that the increasing outsourcing of employment has been driven by some sectors characterized by low productivity levels and wages below the national average. While real productivity growth was almost marginal (3.6%) for the period 2004-2022, there was an increase of almost 19% between 2013-2022, occurring in sectors with differentiated wage and productivity profiles. During this same period, average real productivity almost always evolved above the average real wage, with this gap being particularly evident in certain sectors, namely Accommodation, Food and Beverage Services (I), Real Estate Activities (L), Agriculture, Animal Production, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing (A), and Wholesale and Retail Trade. repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (G).
