From the Decent Work Agenda to the Government Program

The area of work and labor relations, due to its importance in social, political, and economic terms, is one of the structuring vectors of any government strategy. Current realities highlight the urgency of rethinking the economic development model pursued in Portugal in recent decades and the legal-labor regime that has supported it. Based on an assessment of the current economic and labor contexts and starting from a negative evaluation of the more liberalizing legislation of recent decades, the Decent Work Agenda contains a set of proposals that, at least in principle, will lead to changes in the Labor Code and related regulations.

Based on the pillars of decent work and valuing workers, the Agenda identifies a set of issues and points towards the recovery of a fairer model of labor relations, although it highlights the omission of fundamental matters for the promotion of dignity at work and job security.
