CoLABOR 2022 Conference

PRESS RELEASE

STUDY ON WAGE EVOLUTION AND WAGE INEQUALITY PRESENTED TODAY AT THE COLLABORATION CONFERENCE

Inflation cancels out the real increase in average and median wages that has occurred since 2018.

This is one of the conclusions of the CoLABOR study “Wages in Portugal: patterns of evolution, inflation and inequalities”, whose analysis was carried out based on indicators available in DataLABOR, the largest database of statistics and legal information on work, employment and social protection in Portugal.

The study analyzes the evolution of the real value of wages since the beginning of the millennium and the wage inequalities associated with gender, nationality, precarious employment, and educational qualifications of workers in different sectors of economic activity.

This study and version 2.0 of the DataLABOR database will be presented on the morning of Monday, December 12th, at the CoLABOR 2022 Conference, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The CoLABOR 2022 Conference is organized annually by CoLABOR, the Collaborative Laboratory for Work, Employment and Social Protection , and this year's theme is "Work: asymmetries and socioeconomic change".

The CoLABOR 2022 Conference will feature the participation of experts in the fields of sociology, economics, and law, as well as representatives from trade unions and employers' confederations who will discuss wage policies and collective bargaining.

The closing of the conference will feature speeches by Francisco Assis, president of the Economic and Social Council, Leonor Sottomayor, representative of Sonae, and Manuel Carvalho da Silva, coordinator of CoLABOR.
