Decent Work: Context and Readings of the Agenda.
PRESS RELEASE
Tomorrow, July 4th, in Lisbon, between 2:15 PM and 6:00 PM, at the auditorium of the Portuguese Communications Foundation, the Collaborative Laboratory for Work, Employment and Social Protection will once again bring to public debate the Decent Work Agenda and the respective changes that Law No. 13/2023 brought to the Labor Code.
The colloquium, themed "Decent Work: Context and Interpretations of the Agenda," aims to understand the novelties of the current revision and assess its social relevance and legal rigor.
With the revision of the Labor Code, there were relevant changes that consisted of the introduction of legislative innovations and the reformulation of existing solutions, some of which may not be entirely accurate, considering the problems they seek to solve.
In some cases, this review may add new difficulties, including technical issues of legal formulation, which can generate a problematic field of interpretation, particularly in case law. Some consider the regulation of the activities of economically dependent service providers to be at risk of unconstitutionality. Others detect this risk in the prohibition of outsourcing to meet the needs of workers dismissed for objective reasons.
CoLABOR has produced texts and organized events and initiatives related to the theme of the Decent Work Agenda (see https://trabalhodigno.colabor.pt/). It is within this framework that it is organizing tomorrow's colloquium, July 4th. This is a qualified debate focused on the crucial aspects of the historical context of decent work and on the presentation and discussion of diverse interpretations of the Agenda, relating to relevant topics in the individual and collective dimensions of the employment relationship and Labor Law. The two panel discussions will feature prominent figures from academia and law, and their respective interpretations of the recent law.
The event will open with the participation of the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho.
