CoLABOR is featured in the latest edition of the magazine Dirigir & Formar, dedicated to the theme "Transitions, Work, Skills and the Future", with the article "Green Transition and Inequalities", authored by Frederico Cantante and Pedro Estêvão.

Throughout the publication, the researchers analyze how climate change and green transition policies unequally affect different social groups and territories. The article highlights that populations and families with lower incomes tend to be more exposed to the effects of climate change, have fewer resources to protect themselves, and face greater difficulties in recovering after extreme events.

The authors also warn of the potentially unequal effects of decarbonization policies. Measures such as increasing energy prices or transforming emission-intensive economic sectors may disproportionately penalize the most vulnerable workers and territories, especially in areas such as agriculture, industry, energy, or the automotive sector.

In this context, the article argues that the green transition can only be successful if it is accompanied by a just transition. This implies investing in the training and retraining of the most affected workers, strengthening social protection policies, and promoting economic diversification strategies in territories most dependent on high-emission activities.

This article was developed based on research conducted within the ClimatEquality project, "The impacts of the green transition on employment: an analysis from the perspective of 'brown professions'", carried out within the framework of the Science4Policy (S4P), a joint initiative of PLANAPP and FCT.
