The sustainability of Social Security, the financing model of its Pension System, and the present and future adequacy of pensions to the needs of pensioners are topics that have gained new prominence in Portugal in recent years. This prominence was triggered by the establishment of the Commission for the Sustainability of Social Security and the publication of the results of this group's work in the Green Paper on the Sustainability of the Pension System. This ebook aims to contribute to this reflection and enrich it with the critical analysis of four former Ministers of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security and the current Minister responsible for the portfolio. In five concise texts, these key figures point to relevant avenues for an integrated analysis of the Social Security Pension System – particularly the pension system –, the relevance and risks associated with proposed changes to the system, and propose measures to improve and ensure the sustainability of the Social Security system.
